ThyssenKrupp Elevator launches the 12th edition of its biennial architecture award. It is organised in collaboration with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and the support of the Chamber of Architects of Turkey.
The prizes will be awarded to the winners of this single stage international competition for the design of a Disaster Prevention and Education Centre in Istanbul. Organised in conformity with the UNESCO UIA regulations, the competition has been approved by the International Union of Architects.

Objective
The objective of the competition is the construction of modern facilities, equipped with cutting edge technological and educational infrastructures to prepare the public to deal with natural disasters and their consequences and apply the appropriate preventive and curative mesures. Of an overall surface of some 9450m2, the Centre is located in the Bakirköy district, near Istanbul Atatürk Airport.

Jury
The international jury is composed of Kadir Topbas, Mayor of Istanbul, Javier del Pozo Portillo, Chairman, ThyssenKrupp Elevator and the following architects: Jaume Duró y Pifarre (Spain) – UIA representative, past President of the UIA, Rafael de la Hoz Castanys (Spain), Dalila ElKerdany (Egypt), Nabil Gholam (Lebanon), Sulan Kolatan (Turkey), Mehmet Konuralp (Turkey), Manuel Mateus (Portugal), Antonio Ortíz García (Spain), Süha Özkan (Turkey), Han Tümertekin (Turkey), Alfonso Vegara (Spain), Ali Riza Parsa, representing the Chamber of Architects of Turkey.

Prizes
The following prizes will be awarded by the jury
1st prize 100 000 US$; 2nd prize 50 000 US$; 3rd prize: 20 000 US$.

Deadline for sending entries: 19 September 2011
Date limite for reception of entries by the organisaters: 30 September 2011
Jury meeting: November 2011

Registration will be made on-line at the competition web site. There is no registration fee. The competition language is English.
